for the 2019 Annual Conference

of the Asian Association for Public Administration (AAPA)

May 22-24, 2019

In collaboration with the Philippine Society for Public Administration, National College of Public Administration and Governance, University of the Philippines, Association of Schools of Public Administration of the Philippines, and De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde Manila, Philippines


The 2019 AAPA Annual Conference will be jointly hosted by the Asian Association for Public Administration (AAPA) and De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, Manila, Philippines. It will be held at the Hotel Benilde and De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde Taft Campus (www.benilde.edu.ph) in Manila, Philippines from May 22nd to 24th, 2019. The conference venue is located approximately 50 minutes car drive from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport I, II and III during a non-rush hour.

 

Main Conference Themes: Public Administration and the Future: Challenges and Opportunities in Realizing the Sustainable Development Goals and Directions for Reform and Capacity Building


The role of public administration in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is imminent. There are many issues that have to be addressed to increase the quality of life in developing countries as targeted by SDGs: poverty and hunger, climate change, energy, consumption, marine resources, inequality, economic growth, ecosystems and environment, peace and justice, human settlements, water management, education for sustainable development and lifelong learning, food security, gender equality, industrial sustainability, good health and inclusive well-being, accountable and inclusive institutions, and the global partnership for sustainable development.

 

This conference focuses on how to transform governance and innovate development capacities of governments, institutions and public administrations to achieve SDGs. Academicians, students and practitioners are welcomed to discussthe opportunity to debate emerging issues, trends, and challenges, as well as good practices, strategies and approaches to transforming governance and innovating public administration. This conference will contribute to developing the good practices of public administration to anticipate the various challenges posed by the implementation of the SDGs. This conference inspires the participants to develop solutions and pathways to realizing the SDGs.

The APPA invites submission of abstracts and papers that reflect on the above issues from academics and practitioners. 


DEADLINES FOR ABSTRACTS AND FULL PAPERS


Abstracts (no more than 500 words in English) for paper presentations, should be sent as an email attachment not later than December 21, 2018


After an anonymous evaluation, an official invitation will be sent no later than January 27, 2019 to the authors whose abstracts have been accepted. Full papers must be sent as an email attachment no later than March 22, 2019.

 

All paper abstracts should be no more than one-page long, single-spaced, and should include the following information: (1) author(s) name, title, institutional affiliation, and official address; (2) contact details (email and phone) of authors and/or corresponding author(s); (3) presentation paper title and its sub-theme category; and (4) the presentation paper abstract (no more than 500 words in English).


The conference organizer will review all papers and “Akira Nakamura Award”, “Anthony Cheung Award” will be awarded by the AAPA President to the presenter who delivered the highest quality paper among the papers presented at the conference. The Akira Nakamura Award is for graduate students, professional researchers and scholars. And the Anthony Cheung Award is for practitioners and public officials. To be considered for awards, the author(s) must submit the full paper to the conference organizer by the due date, complete the registration form and make payment for the registration fee(s). Conference Date and On Site Registration: May 22-24, 2019


All presenters must register for the conference in order to have their presentation scheduled in the conference program.

 

Registration Fees


International Participants:
- General US$150
- Students US$100


Philippine National Participants:
- General Php. 8,100
- Students Php. 5,400


The registration fees include participation to the conference and membership fee to AAPA for a year and it must be paid in full (this fee is not separable). More detailed information about the Online Registration will be available in early January of 2019.

Conference Venue and Accommodation:
The main conference and the parallel sessions will be held at Augusto Rosario Theater, De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, Taft Campus More detailed information about the conference venue will be available in due course.
