The ComplianceNet 2020 conference will take place on June 29 – 30, 2020, and will be hosted by the University College London (UCL) School of Public Policy/Department of Political Science and the UCL Global Governance Institute. We are currently accepting panel or paper submissions, with a submission deadline of January 24, 2020.  

If you are unfamiliar with the organization, ComplianceNet seeks to bring together scholars from a range of different disciplines to study the interaction between rules and human behaviour, broadly defined. The first two meetings have been highly successful, bringing together academics from business, criminology, economics, law, political science, psychology and sociology, among other fields. UCL is located in the beautiful, Bloomsbury neighbourhood of central London, close to the British Museum, the British Library, Oxford Street, and numerous shops, pubs, restaurants and hotels.  Surrounded by the Goodge Street, Euston, Euston Street and Russell Square tube stations, UCL is easily accessible via public transit in London and from the city’s five airports. 

ComplianceNet 2020 is timed to take place immediately after the biennial ECPR Regulatory Governance meeting—a meeting which will be important for a number of ComplianceNet attendees--at the University of Exeter taking place from June 24-26.  For more information on the Regulatory Governance Standing Group and the conference, go to http://www.reggov.org/. 

Scholars interested in attending ComplianceNet may find they also want to attend the ECPR meeting and vice versa.  The train journey between Exeter and London is relatively inexpensive and takes approximately three hours.  In between, you can take in famous cultural sights, such as Stonehenge, Winchester Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral, home to the best preserved copy of the Magna Carta.

Prospective participants may submit either panel proposals (containing three to five thematically-linked papers) or individual paper proposals (which will be assigned to thematic panels after the submission deadline of January 24, 2020).

·        For individual papers, please choose the option “Single Paper Proposal” and submit the paper title and abstract (up to 200 words).

·        For panels, if you are the panel organiser, please choose the option “Panel Proposal”, submit the panel title and an integrative statement about the panel (up to 200 words).  If you as the panel organiser are also presenting a paper on the panel, please also present your paper title and abstract (up to 200 words). 

·        If you are part of a proposed panel, but are not the organiser, please choose the option “Papers Within a Panel Proposal” and enter the panel title, paper title and an abstract (up to 200 words). 

·        If you would like to attend, but do not want to present a paper or a panel, please choose the “Attendance Without Presenting” option.  You may select this option up until March 13, 2020. 

All eligible participants will be able to put themselves forward for the Best Paper Award by a Junior Scholar and the Best Paper Award by a Senior Scholar.  Information on how to do this will follow soon after this email.  We will also be giving out a Lifetime Achievement Award for seminal contributions to the study of compliance. 

We aim to notify prospective participants of panel/paper decisions by February 15, 2020.  We look forward to seeing you at ComplianceNet 2020!
