Policy scholars are increasingly encouraged to approach and design their research with relevance and knowledge mobilization in mind. The focus on evidence-based, robust research applied to ‘real-world’ public policy issues has grown in the past two decades. Scholars are asked to reflect on policy research for what purposes, encouraged to communicate their research findings to public and policy audiences beyond the academic community, and provided with multiple channels to do so. Using relevant literatures from public policy, public administration, knowledge mobilization/utilization, and some illustrative examples, this workshop focuses on helping doctoral students and junior scholars think about relevance and knowledge mobilization related to their research including their theoretical foundations, research design, methodological choices as well as their publication and dissemination strategies. This interactive workshop will include small group research exchanges and discussions of opportunities and challenges related to centering relevance and knowledge mobilization in public policy research.
