This roundtable is organized by the Associação Brasileira de Ciência Política (ABCP). 

The policy dismantling process has been verified in several democracies around the world, especially in those with authoritarian governments, becoming part of the democratic institutions' degradation process that characterizes such governments. The Bolsonaro presidency was not an exception to this trend, being an administration characterized by the destruction of several public policies, as demonstrated by different studies in Brazil.

Now that Bolsonaro's government has ended and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has ascended, the main challenge of the new government is to rebuild public policies that have been dismantled or sidelined and to reformulate the state institutions needed for the reconstruction process.

In this context, this panel aims to discuss the theoretical and empirical challenges to the study of processes of public policy reconstruction, such as the one underway in Brazil. This discussion aims to understand not only the Brazilian situation but also other national contexts, which are or will be facing political changes and the reconstruction of policy capacities oriented to public policy formulation and implementation.
