I am Associate Professor of Public Administration and Policy at Rockefeller College, University at Albany-SUNY and former Editor of Critical Policy Studies. I draw on interpretive and critical theories and methodologies to conduct research on policy conflict, networks and policy advocacy, and the role of civil society organizations in supporting citizen participation in public deliberation and policy discourse, mostly in the environmental field. My recent projects have focused on fracking in New York, oil extraction in Colombia, South America, and environmental justice in the US. I am interested in explaining how policy conflict affects decision making and policy formulation, and how conflict can be used productively to create more just and sustainable policy. I serve on the editorial boards of several public policy journals. In the past, I have served IPPA as a regular panel organizer and as a member of the advisory board of the Critical Policy Studies Network, which supports the T08: Discourse and Critical Policy Research track annually at IPPA. I have also convened community meetings of the Critical Policy Studies Network and Critical Policy Studies journal editorial board at IPPA, and mentored students by providing feedback on their panel submissions and supporting their review of paper submissions. I am interested in serving on the board of IPPA to work with my colleagues to maintain a space in the field for critical theoretical and methodological perspectives on public policy, and to build bridges across research traditions to foster more inclusive dialogue and debate. In addition, I believe strongly in supporting epistemic justice in academia and actively creating spaces for and with groups who have historically been marginalized in academic spaces.
