I am assistant professor at the Institute of Public Administration at Leiden University, and at KU Leuven Public Governance Institute. I am fascinated by comparative public policy and policy analysis, and specialize in evidence-informed policy making, and policy evaluation. I had the pleasure to co-chair several panels at past ICPP conferences and an IWPP3 workshop.
Building bridges has been an important leitmotif during my career, and reflects how I approach academia. In my work, I aim to explore synergies between public policy, and public administration and more specialized policy evaluation or evidence-based policy communities. These fields largely developed separately, which makes that knowledge often remains siloed. Besides, I strongly believe in combining basic research with developing applied expertise, and I have developed a substantial track record in policy consulting and evaluation research.
For IPPA, I also see much potential in deepening synergies between public policy and adjacent scholarships, and to invest in more high-level engagement and impact with non-academic stakeholders. I am convinced that spanning between these communities could advance our understanding of public policy, and better match theories with empirical realities. If I would get the privilege to join the College, I would like to contribute to such bridge-building.
