LIST OF PANELS

General objective: The purpose of the panel is to build on recent research on post-truth politics, policy argumentation, and policy narratives to explore more deeply the non-obvious but nonetheless demonstrable dynamics of public policy discourse.

Research question: What are the implications of post-truth politics and political relativism for current trends in policy discourse.  To what degree are relativism or post-truth politics a danger for the future of  democratic governance? What can be done?

Scientific relevance: This panel will be of relevance to public policy studies generally and critical policy research in particular. Policy scholars attuned to questions of knowledge, hegemony, dominance, the politics of denial, and democratic pluralism will find narrative, argumentative and post-truth attention to such matters in public policy discourse relevant to their own inquiries.

This panel anticipates paper proposals having a critical sensibility that deal with public policy discourse, from angles such as narrative politics, post-truth politics, perspectivism/relativism, the argumentative turn or other interpretive approaches.
