The Advocacy Coalition Framework: Rising to Contemporary Challenges
Given the changes in the world from the global pandemic, political strife, and growing inequalities and inequities, this panel seeks papers that take on these challenges and many more with the Advocacy Coalition Framework (ACF). This panel seeks papers on the ACF that advance our understanding of contemporary issues and the approach itself. This includes papers that might focus on innovations in the following areas:
1. Advancing the ACF theoretical, possibly in existing strengths of coalitions, learning, and policy change, but also in many others, from questions involving stories, framing contests, and blame games to understanding instances of collaborations and conflicts.
2. Advancing the ACF methodologically, this might span from qualitative to quantitative approaches embracing a variety of epistemological and ontological assumptions.
3. Informing contemporary challenges, from the pandemic to economic, political and social inequities.
4. Tackling normative questions, such as how the ACF can be used to advance democratic ideas, reveal relationships of power, inform topics of policy successes/failures, and be used in political advocacy.
5. Promoting comparative questions that span space and time. This might include questions about how coalitions, learning, and policy change compare between countries and across topics.
6. Applying the ACF in rarely applied settings and topics, such as applications outside western democracies.
7. Exploring the insights of the ACF in contexts of crises response and management, from catastrophic climate events to pandemics.
CALL FOR PAPERS
In all of these areas mentioned above, we welcome new students and experienced scholars, ideas that seek to rethink and maybe shatter our current understandings of the framework, and take chances and risks.
ACF panels have traditions of giving excellent feedback, engaging the audience in constructive discussions, and supporting scholars develop their ideas and improve their craft and science.
