The MA programme Geopolitical Studies (GPS) is a two-year English-language Master’s degree program which combines disciplines of Geography, Geostrategy, Geoeconomics, International Relations, and Politics. Some use Geopolitics and International Relations (IR) interchangeably. The GPS is focused on understanding how the world works in the age of unprecedented connectivity, security downgrade, and growing geostrategic tensions. Students learn why geography may be a tyranny but also country ́s greatest advantage. In the GPS students are introduced to the key concepts, theories and the methodology and approaches to conducting proper research in this field. They become skilled at geopolitical and geoeconomic analysis, gain empirical knowledge of regions and countries, develop analytical, writing, and argumentation skills.

 

The mandatory courses provide the necessary theoretical background, while the electives enable the students to choose their thematic and regional specialisation according to their preference.

 

This program allows students to gain a robust empirical and theoretical knowledge through a wide offer of theoretically, practically oriented courses, or interactive seminars

Acquire analytical, language, writing, and argumentation skills in practically oriented courses

GPS graduates have pursued successfull careers all over the world. Strong empirical knowledge of the world, methodological and theoretical backround, and practical skills male them highly valued experts and ready to become country risk, intel, security analyst, get a job in diplomacy, foreign affairs, defence, trade sector, or defence industry, to join international organizations such as NATO, the European Union, to work in international business, media, or to continue a career in Academia or Think Tanks, and the world of NGO ́s.

 

Applicants to the GPS Programme may come from a variety of undergraduate backgrounds. It is not necessary to have studied political science, international relations or geopolitics. Admission may also be granted to students whose previous studies were in the humanities, economy, law, or technical or natural sciences. Although a background in political science and related sub-disciplines is not formally required for admission, it is an advantage for GPS applicants to have an aptitude for political science.The programme has so far welcomed students from 60+ countries from all around the globe. All students must have a good command of the English language to successfully complete all the course requirements, including discussing specialised topics.

 

Costs and fees: the tuition fee for the GPS programme is 3 500 EUR per semester.
