About the Network:

The Global South Public Policy Research Network (GSPPRN) is a research and policy practice network focused on multidisciplinary study of public policies and their processes in the Global South. The Network contributes to public policy with grounded knowledge emerging from countries of the Global South, to develop our understanding of shared, unique and situated histories, knowledge(s) and practices of policies and policymaking in the Global South.

We interrogate the applicability of established frameworks and support the development of new, context-sensitive models to explain how policies are made, implemented, and change in the in the geopolitical Global South region. The primary value of GSPPRN within IPPA is in its ability to enhance professional exchanges, multinational and regional collaborations, interactions and generate comparative studies across the Global South. The network focuses on emerging global public policy issues that have distinct and differential impact compared to the Global North such climate change, environmental impacts, global health, migration issues, education, technology and knowledge, artificial intelligence, et cetera.

OBJECTIVES

• Advance Policy Research: Interrogate the applicability of established policy frameworks and elevate locally grounded knowledge and lived experience in policy discourse and explain the unique institutional dynamics, political economies, and problem-solving practices of the Global South.
• Build a Collaborative Community: Establish a robust and inclusive network of scholars, practitioners, and institutions across the Global South and beyond to facilitate partnership. 
• Amplify Regional Scholarship: Curate and disseminate high-quality research on public policy in the Global South, increase its visibility and impact within global policy discourses.
• Foster Theoretical and Methodological Innovation: Cultivate contextually relevant approaches and innovative research methodologies suited to the complex challenges of policy analysis.
• Support Emerging Scholars: Create mentoring, presentation and publication opportunities for emerging scholars and early career researchers. We are committed to dismantling barriers and cultivate a diverse, sustainable, and critical mass of experts on policy processes in the Global South.
