On 28-30 January 2020, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Digital Governance (DIGOV) celebrates its kick-off conference "The Roundabouts of Digital Governance" at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

It's a pleasure to invite you to this event at which world leading scholars will meet with high-level representatives from business, politics and public organizations. They will discuss the socio-legal disruptions that Artificial Intelligence and Big Data entail for the wellbeing of society and into which governance structure digitalization shall be embedded. This comprises for example the question what Digital Democracy means, what challenges digital platforms create for competition policy, whether Artificial Intelligence may qualify for legal personality, how responsibility is shared when data are shared, and what ownership regime (big) data should have. How to teach Digital Governance by digital means and creating an inclusive space for European Studies is another high-light of this conference.

The conference will be concerned with overarching questions on the outer limits of digital governance and the internal modalities of achieving it—directly or indirectly, and privately or publicly.

The conference has two major parts addressing the fundamental societal challenges of digital governance, thereby following the dimensions 1) private/public and 2) intra/cross jurisdictional.

DIGOV is the name of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence that has been awarded by the European Commission to Erasmus School of Law, in conjunction with the Centre for Business Law and Practice of the Law School of the University of Leeds (UK) and the Law School of Bar-Ilan University (Israel). Centres of Excellence are awarded to outstanding research groups that have a visible societal impact and do cutting-edge research on an international scale.

On behalf of the directors Klaus Heine, Pinar Akman and Oren Perez and all the fellows in the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, we would be extremely happy to have you as a participant for the whole conference (or parts of it) to share your expertise.

The conference is open to academics and practitioners. Please feel free to share the invitation with others who might be interested. Admission is free, but due to the venue, pre-registration is required. For more information and direct registration, see: https://digov.eu/events/kickoff/
