Accommodation Options

Low-cost options include youth hostels with dorms or private rooms as well as bed and breakfasts in Montreal. Most of the budget hotels are in the Latin Quarter, in the streets east of Berri-UQAM metro and the long distance bus station.

Mid-range options include Downtown chain hotels to "gîtes", guest houses that range from a single room in an apartment to elegant historic homes with three to five rooms. Gîtes are usually found in the more residential neighbourhoods such as the Plateau.

Luxury resorts and boutique hotels are mostly concentrated in Old Montreal and Downtown.

P.h.D Lodging

Grey Nuns Residence

Concordia University allows P.h.D students to benefit from a preferential rate at the Grey Nuns Residence.

Location

The Grey Nuns residence is a good option in Montreal for budget travelers. This former convent is now run by Concordia University as a student residence. During term time it houses nearly 600 students but in summer anyone can enjoy this location for a fraction of the price of neighbouring hotels. Although it is situated in the heart of all the action, Grey Nuns has a large, shaded garden. Enjoy a picnic by the fishpond or play a game of beach volleyball.

Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, Grey Nuns is steps from the metro, shops and restaurants of rue St Catherine. A 10 minute walk will get you to the Mont Royal where you can chill out at the Tam Tams or take a hike to the top for a nice view of the city. In the opposite direction is the Old Port with its cobbled streets, hip bars and many summer activities; from a giant zip wire to the temporary sandy beach or Bota Bota spa. To explore further afield just hop on the metro at the corner of Guy and St Catherine and access the city’s public transit system.
