The International Public Policy Association and the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals take the safety of all participants and staff very seriously. As such, we are carefully monitoring the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to do so.

We recognize you may have concerns related to the COVID-19 virus, which is why we want to address some points:

In compliance with WHO and local authorities' guidelines, several measures will be put in place during ICPP5 to promote the health and wellbeing of all attendees and staff, including:

  • Respect for social distancing in all spaces. Classrooms will be assigned according to the size of the panels and respecting appropriate physical distancing.
  • Access to hand sanitizer in all the classrooms.
  • Mandatory use of masks. Masks will also be available on-site upon demand.
  • Surfaces and spaces will be cleaned every day between panels.
  • Instructions on safety procedures (proper handwashing, signs and symptoms of COVID-19, contact person, response plan in case of exposure to the virus), will be sent to all participants.

Given the particular situation and uncertainty with regards to international travel, we want to reassure participants will fully be refunded if unable to take part in ICPP5 for reasons linked to the pandemic, which may include (but is not limited to):

  • Travel bans (imposed by participants' home countries or from Spain)
  • Quarantine requirements
  • Exposure to COVID-19 / recently diagnosed with or suspected to have COVID-19 / high-risk individuals

Currently, ICPP5 is maintained as a face-to-face event. However, the IPPA and the IBEI are also considering the possibility of establishing video participation options for participants that are unable to travel because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be analyzed with both the panel chairs and the respective participants.

As the situation evolves, so will our approach to keeping you safe. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at
