Toronto by Airplane

Toronto Pearson International Airport is Canada's busiest airport. It is located on the outskirts of Toronto in the northwest. It is therefore quite far from downtown Toronto and if you are not familiar with the UP Express, it can take a long time to get to the city center.

At the Toronto airport, you will have the choice between cabs, private drivers, and buses but with these means of transportation, you will take a long time. Toronto is a city with a lot of traffic jams. It depends on what time your plane arrives but if you are in traffic, you can take more than 1h30 to arrive in the city center while the normal time by car or bus is 45 minutes - 1 hour.

UP Express is a dedicated air-rail link that connects Toronto Pearson Airport and downtown Toronto, offering residents and visitors a fast, safe, affordable, and comfortable ride to the city. The UP Express whisks you to and from the city by passing traffic hassles and parking headaches, getting to your destination stress-free.

  • Only 25 minutes between downtown Toronto and Pearson Airport
  • Better for your budget; 70% less than taking a taxi or car service
  • Downtown’s Union Station is close to the office, convention centers, and hotels

The normal price for a one-way ticket is $12.35 but thanks to our partnership, if you pay on the UPexpress website with our promotion code: "ICPP6" of 25% that you will use during your payment, the ticket will be $9.26!

If you don't want to take the train, you can of course take a taxi. Prices vary depending on the destination. The standard cost for downtown Toronto is between $50 and $85. We recommend that you check with the taxidriver before leaving the terminal. The prices on uber are the same and vary from $50 to over $100 depending on the car requested. The trip is estimated to be 50 minutes with the classic traffic jams.

You can also take the public bus. There are several possible routes. However, we do not recommend this option due to the waiting time and the fact that it can take more than two hours. If you would like more information on public transportation, please read the bottom of our web page describing public transportation in Toronto.

Public transport in Toronto

Public Transportation Public transportation in Toronto is plentiful and quite well organized! The Toronto Transit Commission is the organization in charge of managing public transportation in Toronto.

The city then offers 4 subway lines

  • Yellow (Yonge-University Line), from Downsview to Finch
  • Green (Bloor-Danforth Line), from Kipling to Kennedy
  • Blue (Scarborough Line), from Kennedy to McCowan
  • Purple (Sheppard Line), Sheppard-Yonge to Don Mills

Metro Toronto

You also have a large number of buses operating at almost the same times, reinforced by some twenty night-time lines. And then a dozen tramway lines (streetcar) running for the most part 24 hours a day on east-west axes and crossing metro stations.

Tickets are common to all 3 modes of transportation and can be purchased at affiliated outlets, metro stations and on board. However, you cannot pay with cash on the bus and on the streetcar.

  • Single ticket: $3.25 ($2.30 for seniors)
  • Day Pass $13
  • Weekly Pass (Monday-Sunday only): $65

If you would like more information about public transportation in Toronto, we invite you to visit the official TTC website.

If you don't want to use traditional public transportation, you can use a bicycle in Toronto. Bike Share Toronto offers bike sharing at more than 450 stations across the city. The subscription (at the pay station with a payment card) costs $7 for 24 hours and $15 for 72 hours. It allows you to pick up a bike as many times as you want during these periods, for periods of less than 30 minutes. Beyond that time, the fees go up quickly: $4 per additional 1/2 hour!

The Bike Share is therefore not suitable for long rides, but it is an efficient alternative to get from point A to point B. Remember to put the bike down and unlock another one at the terminal to avoid accumulating fees.
