Interpretivism vs. positivism in policy studies: Is there common ground?

In response to a number of calls for collaboration between interpretivism and positivism, the goal of this essay is to identify and explore the complexities posed by this proposal. To introduce the topic it is first useful to offer some reflections on the issues it raises as they relate to the emergence and development of interpretive policy analysis and, more generally, the critical policy studies orientation.
