Learn about our main activities:

1.      Opening and closing plenary sessions, bringing together leading scholars to reflect on themes that matter most to our critical-interpretive community.

2.      Curated paper panels, featuring selected contributions and chaired by members of the Scientific Committee. The number of panels will be limited in order to ensure high-quality dialogue and meaningful engagement. Thematic calls will be announced very soon.

3.      Critical-interpretative workshops on topics central to our field. These sessions will be open to all participants and scheduled without overlap with the paper panels, allowing everyone to engage fully.

4.      Field visits, offering the opportunity to reflect collectively while engaging directly with Brazilian experiences of insurgent and participatory democracy.

5.      An ethnographic walk through Brasília, inviting participants to explore the intersections between urban politics and climate change through situated, collective inquiry.

External Activities

The external activities of IPA 2026 have been designed as opportunities for immersion, learning, and dialogue with different territories and social experiences across the Federal District.

The aim is to connect interpretive inquiry with situated practices and forms of knowledge, creating opportunities for conference participants to engage directly with community, cultural, agroecological, and Indigenous initiatives. These activities seek to encourage reflexive and collaborative approaches, strengthen dialogue between academia and society, and highlight experiences and knowledge produced in the Global South.

Ethnographic Walk — November 9

The Ethnographic Walk offers a collective experience of observation, reflection, and discussion on the urban dynamics of Brasília.

Taking place in the Setor Comercial Sul, the activity invites participants to engage experientially with issues related to urban controversies, sustainability, cultural meaning-making, and urban art. The walk will be conducted as an exercise in situated inquiry and interaction with the urban environment.

    • Date: November 9, 2026
    • Time: from 5:00 p.m.

Field Visits — November 10

The Field Visits will provide participants with opportunities to engage directly with community, cultural, agroecological, and Indigenous initiatives in the Federal District, connecting interpretive inquiry, social practice, and the co-production of knowledge.

Drawing on ancestry, the strength of youth, and nature-based solutions, we will explore possible paths and responses to the social and ecological challenges of our time.

Participants may indicate one of the following options:

    • Associação Agroecológica das Mulheres Rurais do Assentamento Canaã em Brazlândia

An organization of women family farmers based in Brazlândia, one of the Federal District's main agricultural areas. The visit will provide an opportunity to discuss family farming, collective organization, food security, public policies, and women's economic leadership in rural communities.

    • Santuário dos Pajés

An Indigenous territory located within Brasília's urban area and an important site of Indigenous resistance in the Federal District. The visit will address territorial rights, cultural and spiritual preservation, intercultural education, and the contemporary Indigenous presence in Brazil's capital.

    • Jovens de Expressão — Ceilândia

A cultural collective working with young people from peripheral communities through art, communication, digital culture, and political education. The visit will encourage reflection on youth participation, cultural rights, narrative production, and social transformation in urban contexts.

    • Meeting time: 1:30 p.m.
