Visa Information

We invite you to visit the official website of the Canadian government to be informed of the travel conditions according to your country of departure.

You must also be careful about the necessity of a visa or Electronic Travel Authorization. To check if you need a visa to get to Canada, click here

To travel to Canada, most international travelers must hold either a Visitor Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Exemptions include US citizens and holders of US permanent residency (Green Card) upon travel with a valid passport or their valid Green Card.

Processing times for visa applications vary depending on the visa office and the time of the year. Participants are encouraged to check processing times to find out how long it takes us to process your applications according to the country where you are applying. Each application is different and takes a different amount of time to process.

Participants are encouraged to apply at least 12 weeks in advance of their departure date to ensure they receive the visa in time for the start of the IWPP.

Visa Applications

Passport holders from most European countries, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Israel, Brunei, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan are exempt from needing a visa. However, they must still obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

Regardless of your country of origin, we strongly recommend checking with the Canadian Immigration authorities to confirm whether you need to apply for a visa.

To check the list of countries that require a visa, please visit the dedicated Canadian Government web page.

Visa applications are completed online and typically require submission of biometrics at a Visa Application Center. Please proceed to the visa application page for the step-by-step guide on how to apply for a Canadian Visa. Note that the type of visa to attend the IWPP5 is a "Visitor's visa".

Visa Invitation Letters

IPPA and Carleton University will provide invitation letters with a special code to the registered IWPP5 participants. To receive your invitation letters, please send us an email to contact@ippa-pp.org with the following info:

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Visa-exempt foreign nationals must have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through Canada. Exceptions include U.S. citizens, US lawful permanent residents and Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Applying for an eTA is done online and costs approximately CAD 7. The application process typically completes in a few minutes (though some cases may take a few days).
