Evangelia Petridou (NTNU Social Research and Mid Sweden University)

 

Evangelia Petridou is Research Professor at NTNU Social Research in Trondheim, Norway, and Associate Profession in Political Science at Mid Sweden University in Östersund, Sweden. Petridou’s research interest center on policy process research with a focus on agency and the concept of policy entrepreneurship; crisis management, and political legitimacy and legitimation processes in crisis policymaking. She is associated editor of the International Review of Public Policy (IRPP) and Policy Design and Practice (PDP). She has published extensively, and is currently the PI for Boundaries of Legitimation; Crisis Normalization and Preparedness, a project funded by the Swedish Research Council.

 

 

Course: Studying the Policy Process: Theories and Methods

 

This course will provide insights in the latest theoretical and methodological advances of policy process research. We will situate policy process research in the broader context of policy studies and discuss the main theories of the policy process. Special attention will be paid to the Advocacy Coalition Framework, the Multiple Streams Framework, the Narrative Policy Framework as well as the crosscutting concept of the policy entrepreneur. The course will feature empirical applications from a variety of political contexts, including case studies of the African environment. Finally, we will discuss suitable methods for the meaningful empirical application of these theories and concepts.
