The Opportunities

The School of Social Sciences is the largest school in the Monash Arts faculty, offering a wide variety of programs including Human Geography, Sociology and Anthropology, Criminology, International Relations, Politics, and Gender Studies. It is consistently ranked as one of the best social science schools in the world for research quality and impact and a major focus of our teaching is to help students become responsible and informed global citizens.

The School of Social Sciences is looking to grow by appointing multiple outstanding academics who want to be part of building our thriving community of social scientists, leverage the excellent research support services available at Monash to develop their research profile, and contribute towards high quality teaching and graduate supervision.

Politics and International Relations (IR) is the largest Section within the School of Social Sciences with a reputation for world-leading research and teaching excellence. Monash Politics and IR is a centre of research dynamism with major research streams across the major subfields of the discipline: political behaviour; political theory; comparative politics; international relations; and public policy and administration. The Section is also home to the ARC Centre for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW) and the Monash Global Peace and Security Centre (GPS). The Section offers two complementary undergraduate majors, Politics and International Relations, houses the Monash Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) degree, and from 2024 will offer a new Bachelor of International Relations. It offers two coursework postgraduate programs, the Masters of International Relations (MIR) and the Master of Public Policy (MPP). All these postgraduate degrees have diverse domestic and international student cohorts.

Monash and the Faculty of Arts values staff diversity and champions inclusive practices. We are committed to equitable decision making and apply the principles of achievement relative to opportunity in our selection processes. We especially welcome applications from underrepresented groups.
