I have been studying and teaching public policy for over 30 years, principally at the School of Public Policy and Administration at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. I’ve also taught internationally, at universities in the United States, western Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Asia, Qatar, and Australia. I’ve authored several books, including a textbook on policy analysis, a monograph on the OECD, and recent edited collections on policy transfer. My current research is on global public policy advisory systems. On the more practical side of the field, I have conducted policy workshops and consulted for the Open Society Foundations network, as well as various governmental organizations. I’ve been a Director of our School, a member of several journal editorial boards (currently serving as Executive Editor of JCPA), and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Political Science Association (2006-2012).
My motivation in becoming a candidate is to support the continued growth and deepening of IPPA. Given my background, I would specifically like to contribute to the strengthening of the IPPA research support infrastructure, and to the application of that research to practice. I strongly believe that policy research and theory should contribute to good governance.
